Social Media Study

Online Social Media Intervention

The Laboratory for Healthy Social-Emotional Development at UT Dallas is currently offering a two-week online intervention program to explore the effects of social media on adolescent mental and cognitive well-being.
Compensation: Up to $150 for completing all study components

Who is a good fit?

  • Ages 13-16
  • Regular user of TikTok and/or Instagram
  • Other criteria may apply.

What is involved?

Depending on their assigned group, your child may:
  • Limit time on TikTok and Instagram for two weeks.
  • Or attend an online workshop on healthy social media use (some activities may involve parents).
To understand the effectiveness of the program, your child will be asked to complete the following questionnaires and lab visits:
  • A pre-intervention in-person lab visit at UT Dallas (~2.5 hours).
  • A pre-intervention online questionnaire (~45 mins).
  • An online daily check-in questionnaire (~5-10 mins per day).
  • A post-intervention in-person lab visit at UT Dallas (~ 2 hours).
  • A post-intervention online questionnaire (~30 mins).
  • An online follow-up questionnaire one month later (~30 mins).
